KOHLER, Wis. – April 8, 2019 – Destination Kohler is pleased to announce the development of Straits Chapel, three miles south of Whistling Straits Golf Course, one of America’s top public courses designed by the legendary Pete Dye, and home to the 2020 Ryder Cup.
Thoughtfully designed by Herb Kohler, Executive Chairman of Kohler Co., the Straits Chapel is a breathtaking venue for hosting life’s celebrations, events and milestones. The chapel features sleek, modern lines, a white steel exterior and six cascading bells above the entryway. Inside, guests will enjoy panoramic views of Lake Michigan through a center window that stands 22 feet-tall, positioned between two 8-foot tall windows on each side.
The Straits Chapel responds to existing guest demand, as many of the Destination Kohler wedding venues book up years in advance. One of the most iconic locations for weddings at Destination Kohler is the Irish Barn at Whistling Straits Golf Course. The fieldstone pavilion with east side exposure overlooks Lake Michigan and Whistling Straits holes No. 9, No. 10, and No. 18. It accommodates 120 with a temporary tent increasing capacity to 200 guests.
“Whistling Straits Golf Course continues to be one of our most popular wedding venues with brides and grooms booking quite far in advance. The addition of Straits Chapel offers guests another option with a view of Lake Michigan,” said Christine Loose, Vice President Lodging and Wellness for Kohler Co. “We anticipate the Straits Chapel to be a welcome site for those who seek an intimate space to host weddings and life celebrations in a tranquil setting with breathtaking views.”
In addition to weddings, the Straits Chapel will be an ideal venue for various events such as recitals, lecture series and celebrations of life. The chapel includes two private rooms intended for wedding parties or other special event preparations. Guests enjoy a gently curved entrance to the Straits Chapel with parking, and access to Lake Michigan for unique photo opportunities.
Groundbreaking for the low-impact development is scheduled for Spring 2019 with the project complete in Summer 2020. For more information or booking the location for an event please contact Justin Gephart at 920-457-4441.
